A doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support for a mama & their family during pregnancy, labor, and birth. Having a doula on your team increases your chances of a comfortable, safe, and positive birth and postpartum experience! I have been trained on positioning during labor, coping mechanisms, and emotional support to best help you during these experiences.
Here is some evidence about the benefits of having a doula:

A doula doesn’t replace your husband or family members. However, we can coach them in techniques to help and encourage you, and give them breaks so that they can fully experience these transformative moments. There are circumstances and decisions that may need to be made that I can help explain and decipher that your partner or family members may not be educated on. A big part of a birth doula’s role is partner support!
The same goes for a postpartum doula. I am trained and experienced in caring for mothers/fathers/families in the postpartum season. Postpartum can bring a lot of newness and having another player on your support team is not something you will regret!

Every mother, baby, and family is unique and I love that postpartum support can be very custom to whatever is helpful to YOU! Here are some common tasks that I assist with as a postpartum doula:
setting up/organizing your home to serve you
finding your new rhythm & routines
emotional support
newborn care assistance
sleep assistance
sibling inclusion
meal prep assistance
light housekeeping
breastfeeding assistance
informational support
facilitating parent-infant bonding
postpartum recovery guidance
attending appointments with you

Broadly speaking, midwives have medical training, and during the birth process focus on providing medical care for you and your baby/babies. Doulas, on the other hand, focus on the needs of the mother, offering mental, physical, and emotional support.
A midwife can replace a doctor, a doula would not. A doula is often present more throughout labor and focused on supporting you. A midwife & a doula who you trust makes an amazing team! A doula also provides extended postpartum support for you and your family. -
I thrive supporting home births & undisturbed, natural births!

It’s important to find someone who aligns with your values and who you can trust. Do your research and spend a little time looking for the right doula for you. It’s never too late to reach out, but it’s also never too early to commit when you find a doula you align with! I have had clients sign with me as early as 8 weeks or as late as 38 weeks!

100% yes! Working with a doula post placement can offer many benefits to a new parent, despite the fact that the traditional role of a doula is often associated with pregnancy and birth.
Adoptive parents go through a transition period just like birth parents. Hiring a doula provides significant education and support. Often times parents experience emergency placements, and don’t have much time to prepare for a new baby. This is why a doula can be so helpful!

Consider adding doula services to your baby registry! Express your desire to your friends and family. Prioritize your spending habits and set aside money where and when you can. So many baby items aren’t necessary to have right away, or at all! If you are struggling financially, I’d love to chat about how I can make doula support work for your budget.

I received my birth and postpartum doula training through DONA.
I also took the Spinning Babies training!
I am always looking for more opportunities for education and continued learning.
